The aim of Our Common Destiny is to strengthen the Jewish people by connecting diverse communities of many national and religious identities worldwide through common values.

Just as the Jewish people are a mosaic whose pieces integrate with each other but maintain their unique qualities, so in Challah baking, the different strands are intertwined and woven together to bond.

We are proud to present our recipe for a sweet, round Challah, which represents circularity and the good year we hope will come upon us.

Here's how to bake your own #OurCommonChallah:

1 Kg flour
20 grams of dry yeast
Half a cup of sugar
A tablespoon of salt
1 Egg
100 grams of oil / butter
2 ¼ cups of water

1 Egg

  • Combine everything in a mixer using a kneading hook (except the salt)
  • Let sit about four minutes and add the salt
  • Transfer to a saucepan in a greased bowl and cover with a towel for 45 minutes
  • Place the dough on a floured surface
  • Score the dough
  • Brush on your egg wash (beaten egg) and sprinkle on sesame seeds
  • Pat for another 25 minutes on a baking sheet lined with baking paper (do not cover)
  • Bake at 180 degrees for about 30 minutes until golden
